What is your role?
I am the Portfolio Sales and Marketing Manager for Start-Ups and Transitions.
Describe your Cardinal Journey
I started my cardinal journey back in January of 2020 where I was hired as a Leasing and Marketing Team Lead for three properties in San Diego! I was always drawn to sales which made me very interested in the leasing aspect, however, I became very interested in learning more about the marketing and even the operational side of the business. This then led me to pursue growth and my Community Manager at the time worked with the owner to create the ACM position at this property to create the opportunity for me to grow. I took on the Assistant Community Manager position for the three properties in October of 2021. Soon after, my Community Manager pursued his growth in the company which created the opportunity for me to continue my upward career. I was then promoted to Community Manager in March of 2022. I remained the community manager at these properties until I applied for the open PSM position where my current career path has landed.
Who has been influential in your life, and how have they helped guide you?
I thought about this question so much since it has been presented to me and I would have to say, my parents. While I did not grow up with the traditional family, which a lot of families do not, I am fortunate to say that I had the opportunity to see my mother, father, and step-father, all work very hard to provide for their family and work towards goals in their life and career. I have learned so many amazing values watching these three people in my life that I can only aspire to be this influential to my two girls when they grow up!
What advice would you give to someone starting out in the industry?
Do not be afraid to speak your mind and ask for help when you need it! I have seen a lot of people within this industry come and leave too soon all because they were afraid to use their voice. With such a great line for open and honest communication, we should all feel comfortable enough to speak out when needed and ask a question rather than “drown silently”.
What are three things you can’t start your day without?
Coffee
My Kindle
Cuddles from my girls <3
If you could master a new skill outside of work, what would it be?
While I am a pretty good cook, I am such a lousy baker. If I could master one new skill, it would be to become the best baker. Like, I want to be the mom that brings the best brownies to the bake sale and right now…it’s not cutting it.
If you could invite any historical figure to dinner, who would it be and why?
I have always been really interested in ancient Egypt and anthropology so if I had the chance to have dinner and ask all the questions I would choose Hatshepsut! She was an ancient leader who has herself crowned Pharaoh and was known for breaking down gender stereotypes and doing it like a BOSS!
What’s a recent accomplishment, big or small, that you’re proud of?
Besides having my children, my most recent accomplishment that I am VERY proud of myself for doing is, I read 104 books in the year 2024!! My original goal was 50 so I feel like I crushed it lol! Here’s to 105 in 2025!
