What is your role?
Senior Manager, Systems
Describe your Cardinal Journey.
Back in July 2015, I started with Cardinal as a System Support team member. I was brought on prior to Cardinal taking on the Forum portfolio. They needed an additional team member to assist with system-related issues. I supported our teams onsite and at HQ using the Dashboard ticketing system. I learned how to complete the transitions into Yardi and RentCafe with Entrata as the leasing CRM.
Our team began to grow. Soon, we had 2 additional team members. In 2018, we went through Entrataganza. This was when we transitioned all student and a handful of conventional properties into Entrata. Later that year, I was promoted to System Support Manager.
I then left Cardinal Jan. 2019 but returned on November 11, 2019 as Systems Support Manager. Last year, I was moved to my current role. This role now is assisting the systems team and other project management.
Who has been influential in your life, and how have they helped guide you?
My mother has always been my hero. She was married and pregnant to a man who hit her, just once. This was in 1965. She immediately left him. This taught me the strength to stand up for myself.
I had many managers throughout my career who helped shape who I am. I learned what type of manager I wanted to be from many of those managers.
What is your proudest moment working at Cardinal Group?
Quitting smoking! Thank you AOB. He bet me $1000 (pictured above) that if I could quit and not smoke to Christmas, he would give me the money. I did it and now realize how I was paying to be a slave to smoking!!!
What are three things you can’t start your day without?
My sweet dogs Chai Tea Sunshine
What’s a memorable project or initiative you’ve been part of at Cardinal?
Entrataganza. At first, I was not a key player as I was busy with support tickets and building properties that were transitioning into Cardinal.
If you could spend a day in any department at Cardinal, which one would it be and why?
It’s hard because I love my department. If I had to pick one, maybe acquisitions? I would like to hear their pitches and see what they go through to find clients and win them over.
What is a skill you have developed during your career that you didn’t know you had?
Managing. In the past, I managed, but it was not a good experience. At the time, I did not want to manage ever again, but with the help of Sarah Cheers, I realized supporting my team was all I needed to do. I learned to be available and help coach, train, and support them through all aspects of our day-to-day.
What is something about the culture at Cardinal that you value or enjoy?
Teamwork has always been near and dear to me. I have always made that forefront of how I conduct my day. I make sure to be available for our team to ensure they are supported and share my knowledge!
If you could master a new skill outside of work, what would it be?
Sewing? I love arts & crafts, but not sure I sew well. Haha.
